BENGALURU: In a major relief to train passengers, the first automatic signalling section of South Western Railway between Bangalore Cantonment and Byappanahalli was commissioned at 7:35pm on Sunday.Work is in progress for automatic signalling from Byappanahalli to Whitefield, which is likely to be completed by the end of February.SWR officials said commissioning of automatic signalling between Bangalore Cantonment and Byappanahalli (6km) is part of the automatic signalling work on Bangalore Cantonment-Whitefield section (19km) sanctioned in 2013-14.Work on the entire section costs Rs 19.8 crore. The stations on the section are Bangalore Cantonment, Bangalore East, Byappanahalli, KR Puram, Hoodi (Halt) and Whitefield.The KSR Bengaluru-Byappanahalli-Whitefield section sees 86 trains daily, including 26 short distance services.
