ceremony held today (10th April 2019) at Northern Railway Headquarters Office, Baroda House, New Delhi. Ms. Archana Joshi, Additional General Manager, all the Principal Heads of the various Departments, other senior Railway Officials and Railway employees of Northern Railway, Members of Unions Associations & Federations, President, Northern Railway Women Welfare Organization. (NRWWO) Smt. Harinder Kaur and other Members of NRWWO were present on the occasion. The ceremony started with facilitation of 204 railway employees (Officers & Staff) for their meritorious services by Shri T.P.Singh, General Manager, Northern Railway. Group awards and 15 running shields were presented by General Manager, based on performance-oriented parameters. Lucknow & Ambala Divisions jointly have been awarded with General Manager’s Excellence Shield. Delhi Division was declared the Best overall performance in all fields & the Best improved Division shield. Ferozpur & Ambala Divisions jointly have been awarded for its Most Economical Functioning.
Speaking on the occasion, the General Manager lauded officers and staff for various achievements of the zone in core functional areas. He said that Northern Railway has been serving the Nation with zeal, Vande Bharat Express, the first semi high speed train is being maintained by Northern Railway. He congratulated Lucknow Division and the other who participated in the management of Kumbh Mela- 2019. Shri Singh commended the performance of Northern Railway in the reduction of accidents by 40%. He reiterated that the emphasis remains Safety & Mobility. Shri Singh added that 606 Unmanned Level Crossings have been eliminated in Northern Railway. Mechanized signaling have been converted to electronic signaling at 30 Railway stations across Northern Railway. On Environment front, First Solar Rake (Sitapur- Delhi- Rewari) has been inducted in Northern Railway. Vistadome coach has been made operational in Kalka- Shimla Narrow Gauge. Greenco ratings have been awarded to Workshops. National Efficiency Award has been awarded to Jagadhari workshop. Platinum Rating has been awarded to Railway Colony, S.P.Marg for which Delhi Division efforts towards environment conservation was commended. The General Manager, inter alia, also reiterated that Northern Railway has been working hard for ensuring transparency. Northern Railway has become the first zone for online payment to vendors. In 2018-19, Northern Railway has registered 14% increase in revenues pegged at 8045 Crores. Punctuality, registered at 71%, has also improved significantly in the year 2018-19. Being a premier service zone, Northern Railway has provided 232 Hand Held Terminals to TTEs in all Rajdhani, Shatabdi trains across Northern Railway. In freight segment, Northern Railway has performed well as 230 Long Haul trains were operated. The General Manager informed that on staff welfare front, Northern Railway has taken several initiatives like New OPD, New Oncology Department, New Emergency (20 beds) in Central Hospital. Also, 120 staff were felicitated in safety category for averting possible mishaps. The General Manager appealed to the line staff to observe safety while excuting tasks on railway tracks. He added that Rakshak jackets have been given to Engineering staff. The General Manager congratulated the awardees and keep up the good work. He urged the Railway employees to keep innovating and improving as innovations and improvements can make Railway better in achieving new heights.
