China is the latest country to adopt fully automated #driverless train systems with #CNR Changchun securing a HK$ 1.4bn contract to supply #rolling stock for Hong Kong MTR’s future West Island and South Island lines.The technology which was first implemented in Singapore in 2003 is gaining immense traction across the globe as rail operators are now opting for the fully automated and driverless metro systems (ATO) in an effort to maximize operational performance, increase customer service and safety, and effectively reduce operational costs.  Copenhagen was among the first European cities to fully adopt the ATO system and Metro Chief Piero Marotta explains, “The big benefit of having a driverless system is the safety – the element of human error is taken completely out”.Automated networks provide more predictable running times, energy optimization and automated failure detection and response systems.  “There are mostly advantages for the passengers," says Siemens Mass Transit General Manager Frank Gerken....
