route opened in 1915 (I cordially thank Mr. Joydeep Roy for sharing valuable information with us) and washed away by the deluge' of river Teesta in 1950. It was officially closed in 1951. Total cost of the construction was then Rs 4300000/- (including the cost for the Siliguri Town-Kishangunj Railway).
This route was mainly used for the freight activities. However, only one Passenger Train used to run in the whole day. That train used to depart from Siliguri Town in the morning as a connector to the 'Darjeeling Mail' (Yes, Darjeeling mail- 1UP/2DOWN used to run via present Bangladesh on those days and terminate at Siliguri Town instead of NJP. NJP was opened in 1961, much younger one I say). The same train used to start from GEKA in the evening and terminated at Siliguri before Darjeeling used to start her return journey.
The freight trains used to carry various goods common to Himalayas line Orange, Wool, Butter, Wood etc. A large part of the track used to cut through the dense jungle of Terrai. Many sights of the ferocious wild animals like Tigers, Elephants, Wild Bears etc. have been reported.
So this was the more or less history of this route. Today we can't even see a trace of this route, it now only stays in some documents and in some people's memory.
