In addition to what Manish sir has mentioned, sick lines are also present in sidings, both railways and private ones. There, while doing shunting work or based on observations of operating crew if any issue is found with wagons they get diverted to sick lines so that rest of the shunting work goes on unimpeded. This is the reason why 'sick' comes in sick lines.

Both mumbai and pune are big cities and railway line passes right through them.
Had this been on diesel you would have needed loco change at both ghat beginning and end almost compulsorily to prevent Alco belching fumes right inside people's houses, and this would have wasted almost one hour per train, thereby reducing sectional capacity unnecessarily.
There is reason this line has been electrified since pre-indepednce times (also has to do with TE of steam locos and its ability to negotiate steep grades, but that is another story)..

Back when the line was non-electrified, we had steam locos in the country.
With steam, the issue is active propulsion power is generated only at one wheel and rest of the wheels are rotated by means of crank. This leads to rather poor adhesion figures and less than optimal TE even though they generate substantial amounts of torque. The outcome is that there is a limit to how steep a grade it could ascend. This is how we got reversing lines on both thull and bhor ghat.
It is no wonder mumbai bound

lines were electrified close to a century ago, the ghats are really steep here.
Of course today diesel locos can do the route, but the localities along the railway line may not be too happy about it :)
KR should have been left untouched though, but PiGo wasn't exactly the sharpest tool in the box :D

I hate floods
Konkan is seeing some really horrendous rains at the moment.
In areas where there is less rain we are seeing something like 700 mm per week, where there is more rain almost 1500 mm per week.
To compare, North konkan from June to September receives around 2500 mm (mumbai) to 3500 mm (shrivardhan, around 150 km South of mumbai) rain!! Imagine

These are general coaches actually, and since no armrest and no recline they allow more people to sit.
Post covid lockdown general coaches are also 2S only, hence.
No. Of seats reduce if you go for individual seats with recline, like it happened in MSRTC where pushback semi luxury has one row lesser than normal semi luxury in order to allow for reclining space.
