This tip is based on my couple of journeys between Ahmedabad and Mumbai.
1. Tickets and availability: Even in the peak season, this is a train on which you can bank on. I traveled during the Christmas season and was successful in getting the tickets. The main advantage and disadvantage of this train are its timing at ADI. It arrives at ADI at a very odd time of 1:10 AM in the night due to which many people avoid it and making it available for others.
2. Coaches and Comfort: During my entire

journey of 6h 40m, I didn't sleep for a minute. All credit goes to the coaches which give you heavy vibrations and jerks. A couple of times in the night, I felt the train has derailed due to the jerks. If you are looking for comfort, please don't book this train. I was on the lower berth once and side upper berth the second time. Lower berth journey was really unpleasant.
3. Speed: "Blaster" is the word that comes to my mind when I think of my experience travelling in this train. After leaving Ahmedabad, it literally traverses as a rocket blasting through stations. Being a railfan, this is one thing all of us crave for but at night, even railfans require comfortable sleep which is largely disturbed by the blasting speed and coach geometry. Speed is one department where this train doesn't disappoint at all. Continuously hits the 100 km/h mark.

I had to make a couple of round trips to mumbai on the train and here are my observations.
1. Coaches are old- more than 10 years. Staff try their best to clean them and came 2-3 times during the journey- but there is a limit of what you can achieve
2. Washrooms- As with all retrofitted bio-toilets- stinky and clogged. I can understand bio-toilets in LHB but old ICF coaches makes no sense. There were no hand-sanitizers or spray in half the toilets.
3.

Comfort- The side middle berth means that they are pretty much unusable for averagely tall people. Main berths are okay though not great. ICF coaches vibrate and jerk a lot. Thank god these don't have CBC couplers else the journey would have been intolerable
4. Food- Limited in scope but good- especially the Veg Thali (Rs 120). The catering staff is polite.
5. Speed- Very good- Consistently touches 100+ and not many unscheduled stops. Good for railfanning
6. Punctuality- Good. Reached within 30 minutes of scheduled time on all occasions. That maybe because of the slack.
7. Safety- Good- Each coach has attendant and RPF also takes rounds during night
8. Value for money- Unmatched- Garib Rath's are bang for the buck- especially in summers and for smaller journeys. IR should reconsider closing this service.
Hope this review helps future travelers in planning their journey.

Coach condition is not good.Bedrolls provided are also not washed properly. Catering is provided by Meals on Wheels, food is little costly but tasty. Arrives Ajmer,Jaipur,Alwar Before time due to slack. Speed is good. Top speed is 120 kmph between Virar-Vadodara and 110 on the rest of the section

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
