How to kill a train on a high demand route?
1) Operate as bi weekly instead of daily.
2) Delay train with long halts and crossings.
3) Poor choice of timings.
Any other ideas?

There are buses between Goa and Belagavi every 30 mins or so... and Railways are finding it difficult to fill up a bi weekly train...
Actually there is sufficient demand for 2 trains daily, one in the morning and one in the evening.
If the train doesn't run daily, why will daily passengers think about it? there is a reason why passenger trains run daily...for daily passengers. How difficult is it to understand this?

The time taken to MAO from BGM by bus will reduce significantly after Anmod Ghat 4 lane road is ready... Why will ppl think of this slow moving train?
The closure of this road for 4 laning should have ensured good patronage for this train... But that didn't happen.

I agree with your second point and had in fact mentioned it in a blog post during this trains inauguration. I said they should add link coaches to this train to help ppl with onward connection to SBC and back.
The priority of this train should be serving the people of BGM and Goa not tourism.
I wouldn't not promote Dudhsagar tourism in this manner. This could lead to haphazard acts by tourists which could endanger their and other's life. Those who want to see Dudhsagar should use jeeps available at the foot...

As I said before in another post... The UBL Ankola line would be redundant after the doubling of the UBL- VSG section.
Glad it got shelved. The damage to ecology would be irreversible besides becoming a financial burden for IR in case of low demand.

KR as of now doesn't have own diesel locos.
they use mostly use diesel locos from KJM, PUNE, KYN sheds for thier own trains.
Trains originating from other divisions bring thier own loco along (like ERS, ED, etc) so I feel the same will continue post electrification with electric locos.
