It is Trichinopoly. Not many today know that it was once famous for cigars and Winston Churchill liked the cigars from here. It was also second largest city of Madras presidency for at least 30 years from 1871 to 1901. It even had separate railway company which was later merged with SR. Today Trichy has second largest international flight destinations in TN. If you call Kerala God's own country then Trichy may be called God's own town with so many temples ranging from Srirangam to malai kottai to the recent addition of shirdi baba temple. Trichy's only drawback is lack of industries. Apart from govt industries like BHEL, gun factory, railway workshop, etc it has no private industries which could give large number of jobs. Successive govts failed the city. New companies are invited in and around only Madras which should change...
more... and cities like Trichy, Madurai, Salem, Tirunelveli, etc deserve more jobs. Madras, Trichy and Kanniyakumari also affected by recent rain with flood in some areas. Government should plan to tackle this in the future.
