KR has SR at one end and CR at other.
SR managed to get connection between Konkan railway area to PGT and TVC division towns (entire Kerala and NCJ TEN of Tamil Nadu). But totally failed to link Konkan to other parts of TN, be it Coimbatore, Salem, Erode, Trichy, Madurai, even Chennai. This proves influence of TVC and PGT in Konkan matters.
Story...
more... is same with CR also. Only Mumbai has trains to Konkan towns like Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Chiplun. No link from here to Pune, Nagpur, Nasik, Amravati, Aurangabad, Nanded.
SWR has zero hold on Konkan. To get one train from Karwar to Bangalore, people had to approach courts!. No trains from Karnataka's Konkan railway areas of Mangalore, Udupi, Kundapura, Ankola, Honnavara, Karwar to any part of Karnataka state- Mysore, Hubli, Belagavi, Bijapur, Tumkur, Hospet, Ballari, Raichur, Kalaburagi, Bidar. Just one train runs from KR area to Bangalore.
No trains from Goa to Karnataka and Maharashtra towns.
Also, jurisdiction of KR leaves no income generating operations/ stations in their control - be it Mangalore Port, Vasco Port, etc. Just like an island, it stands orphaned with crippled jurisdiction between Thokur (outside Mangalore) to Roha (100 kms from Mumbai).
State wise contribution in KR is Maharashtra 22% Karnataka 15% and Kerala 6%. But Kerala got lion share in trains, and Maharashtra got few trains to Mumbai. But Karnataka got zero connection to Karnataka towns.
This anamoly to be rectified. Dismantling KR is not going to happen. But it is better to realign the areas. It is better to give area upto and including Mangalore Central in KR, by taking from SR. . In Maharashtra, from CR, if Roha upto Panvel is given to KR, it would make sense. In Goa, KR should get MAO VSG portion from SWR.
Then, KR would be able to run trains from Mangalore to Hubli, Belgaum, Hyderabad, Bidar etc. Atleast we can expect train from Mangalore to Chennai via Hassan, which is shorter route than via Shoranur. KR can run trains from Madgaon/ Vasco to Nagpur, Nashik, Aurangabad etc.
With Minister's pressure, hope the issues would be addressed properly.
