Nearest station to visit panjim , the political and administrative head quarters of Goa.
All government offices and most of the major acadmies are in panjim only.
Also a preferred station to visit mangeshi temple, bom jesus basillica, bambolim, candolim, miramar, dona paula ,calangute and baga beach
distance upto panjim along the mandovi river coast is 13 km

readily available outside station. They can charge anything between 500- 700 rs depends up on the season.
If you have light luggage , hand bag or backpack , you are solo or double walk down the tracks at ratnagiri end upto the NH 748 fly over also called belagavi road in the local and catch buses going up to panjim bus stand every 10 minutes. They will charge 15 rs.
Facility wise konkan railways have nothing much to offer in this station.
entrance is small and narrow. One railway canteen is there. it doesn't looks like a state capital class station.
If luggage is less, would suggest to pre - book a rented bike also available in all major hotels through agents

Thivim is commercially a more important station than Karmali. Tourist flow is more from Mumbai side than Mangalore side. Thivim is used as access for most of North Goa beaches. Hence may have better facilities than karmali. While you are right Karmali is near the state capital, it is also true that Madgaon has double the population than the state capital

yes, you are right north goa beaches of anjuna, vagator, morjim, chapora are close by and tourist in flow is great. But if you see overall connectivity point of view panajim and karmali should not be ignored by railways. and in politics and thus in railways
generally power centre are given more weightage over population density

I have been staying in Goa for the last 11 years. Goa is a small state so the situation is very much different than in most other states. I dont want to go into your postings with a microscope, but I do need to correct a few facts. In most states the location of the state assembly/secretariat is considered as 'power centre'. In Goa this is located in Porvorim which is 19 KM from Thivim RS and is 14 km from karmali RS. Calangute is located 17 km from Thivim and 24 km from karmali. Mangeshi is 14km from Karmali and 18km from Madgaon. Maybe you should relook at the places you have mentioned against Karmali as 'preferred station''
Also, most

tourists do not (usually) go to tourist places directly from the railway stations. They stay in places in North Goa or South Goa or Panjim and then take day trips by bus or taxi to tourist places.
So you are right, in case somebody from Mumbai wants to stay in Panji, Karmali will be the preferred railway station. If I am staying in Calangute or Baga and I am coming from Mumbai side, I would get off at Thivim. .

Having stayed for so long in Goa, beaches are not so exciting as before. I like Pollem the best. It is further south than Galjibagh

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
