Two more platforms would become operational within a month at Sarai Rohilla in the national capital, taking the total number of platforms at the railway station to five. Several other projects are lined for giving a facelift to the station, which witnesses an average footfall of a lakh of passengers per day. “By February, two island platforms would become operational. Moreover, we are planning to integrate two platforms of the Vivekanandpuri halt (situated few metres away) into the station very soon,” said Ashwani Lohani, Divisional Railway Manager, Delhi Division. A total of 16 pair of trains, mostly catering to passengers of Rajasthan and Gujarat, operate from the station. Railways have planned several other infrastructure development projects as a part of their attempt to make the station a hub for the West-bound trains. “One of the major targets is opening a new entry to the station from Shastri Nagar side. Once operational,...

The work of the new entry is likely to be completed by the next financial year, he added. Moreover, the department is also planning to provide another gateway at the existing entry to the station. “We have identified a spot next to the Liberty cinema. The existing building in the railway premises is also likely to get a facelift,” Additional DRM Sudhir Garg said. According to railway offcials, more trains are likley to operate from the station in the future. While important trains like Delhi-Jaipur AC Express is already running from the station, the propsed double-decker train to Jaipur is also likley to operate from Sarai Rohilla station. While infrastructure at the station is being improved, the railway authroities have also asked the Delhi government to construct a foot overbridge (FOB) on Rohatk road.“While the FOB would help all the pedestrians, it would immensely benefit railway passengers. The issue was raised in the last meeting and a wriiten proposal would be sent to the concerned department soon,” Garg said.
