On the contrary it should be in the interest of IR to have some safety supervisors in the unions, so that the thinking/ planning and working of unions help in safe operation of trains. In this way unions can play an important role contributing to Rly safety in addition to taking care of IR worker's interests.
But the above logic holds true only if unions play their role responsibly i.e. working towards improvement/ strengthening of IR which give bread & butter to its employees, in addition to taking care of workers's interests.
