The best intercity train for Balasore area people to cuttack and Bhubaneswar. It has 2 reserved coaches D1 and D2. These both coaches comes completely empty from BGY to BLS , and then at BLS both gets filled up to optimum level. Same is with return journey also. The train gets half filled from BBS and fully from CTC. But gets completely empty at BLS. If you have travel from BBS/CTC to BLS, then don't forget to do reservation before boarding 2S because from last two journeys i am seeing 3-4 TC escorted by RPSF personals don't allow travellers to travel 2S coach with unreserved ticket. They push all unreserved to General coaches and only reserved tickets (WL and CNF) are allowed to stay in 2S. Also TC checks Tickets in General compartments. In Dhauli express , you will never find a TC in Unreserved Coaches.
So if you are travelling from BBS/CTC to BLS , then reserve tickets and its easily available. But if you have to travel from BLS to BGY stretch, then you can hop into 2S coach with general ticket also , as the train runs completely empty. No need of prior reservations required.
