Wanted to goto Rameswaram on this train for a long time now. Looking forward to going over the Pamban Bridge :)
Only 1st A/C was available >> 'what the heck. Lets book!'. Any tips for my travel? Is it possible to open the 1st A/C door while going over Pamban bridge to enjoy the view? Or should I move to the SL coach?

no krish...in MG boatmail had 6701/02 number only...it belongs to MDU division....when boatmail was introduced via CL it had 6101/02....after diverting via ML again number changed to 16701/02...now again changing to 16101/02....

i don know anything...now im in chennai for the past one month.. :(....but i think there is a huge response for extension of Silambu to MNM as Sivaganga district was totally dependent on Boatmail....now they got dedicated service to MS tat too on weekend service....also it should not be extended beyond MNM...they deserve dedicated ONT...

This train covered 675km between Madras Egmore and the Dhanushkodi Pier for connection with the Sri Lanka (then Ceylon) ferry. In the 1950s it took 19 hours and 5 minutes for this run. The detailed schedule is given below.

To Rameshwaram (665km from Madras), change at Pamban dep 15.15, arr. Rameshwaram 15.45. Fare from Madras First Class 35-8-0 (35 rupees, 8 annas, 0 pice).

In 1898, the South Indian Railway ran a Madras - Tuticorin service that connected with the boat to Ceylon. This took 21 hours and 50 minutes for the 443 mile (709km) run. The steamer from Tuticorin to Colombo took 22 hours.
