This Vigilance Control Device (VCD) is at present on trial. According to a Railway Board official, this device is a kind of a ring which would be given to loco pilots on duty. Aug 26 2011 (18:41) News Entry# 35630 Vigilance Control Device to enhance rail passenger safety Posted by: Rang De Basanti^ Added by: Rang De Basanti^ Aug 26 2011 (18:43) Taking a nap for the rail engine driver will not be possible as the Railway is going to install Vigilance Control Device to keep a tab on the alertness of the driver so as to enhance the safety of the passengers.In a bid to prevent train accidents (due to unalertness of engine drivers) the Indian Railway on the move for a major safety is upgrading the railway engines with a new emergency braking system — VCD (Vigilance Control Device), which will enhance passengers’ safety by automatically stopping the train if a driver doesn’t perform a regular task such as accelerating or braking for a stipulated period of time.The VCD is designed and manufactured to enhance the safety of the passengers by ensuring the alertness of the engine driver all the time.
