There were media reports to the effect that WL tickets will not be issued under TATKAL category from 1st July 2014 but I see lots of WL tickets under TATKAL here posted asking for PNR predictions. What is the on-field status ? Can anyone please update ?

The other day someone asked me if a long distance train ticket (say SL or 3AC class) with valid reservation can be used on the suburban railway system. The scenario is :

Another situation that comes up:
Suppose I book 3AC ticket from CSTM. I stay at Thane. I travel from Thane to Kalyan on the suburban system to catch a outbound train to Patna. I would presume that is also valid.
All of us know that all rules/regulations are subject to interpretations by the field staff. Has anyone here actually inspected by railway staff and actually been permitted ? If I recommend such travels to my friends/relatives and they actually end up harassed then it can get very embarrassing. Ticket prices are not an...
