Instead of a new Division at Mangalore, form a new Rail Road Company say West Coast Railway Corpn Ltd on the lines of KRCL with the existing Palakkad Division plus Trivandrum Division minus (NCJ-TEN) plus (QLN- SCT) of MDU Div and (MAJN-SKLR) of MYS Div ie more than 1300 kms under a new corporation with HQ at MAQ is a better option.

Instead of re-routing Byndoor Road- Kannur Passenger to Subrahmanya Road, extend 70105 DEMU to SBHR....and to improve occupancy of 56665 reschedule its departure ex CAN to 05:30 am instead of 04:15.

The route via ASK has one loco reversal at ASK and two loco reversals via MYS at HAS and MYS. The new route is straight and without these hassles of reversals and considerable time can be saved. The other two routes are already congested. You know there are more than 500 luxury buses are plying between Mangalore and Bangalore. This is in addition to several buses from nearby towns in DK, Udupi, Kasaragod and Kannur Districts. On an average these buses carry more than 20000 people (one way per day @ 40 seats per bus) on this route ie an equivalent of 278 rail sleeper coaches can carry which about not less than 15 pair of Express trains per day each with 20 coaches (leave 2 SLRs). But there are just 10 pair of trains per WEEK in this route !!!!! What an untapped potential.....Who is behind this ....... strong private...

bus lobby of Mangalore and nearby places. An SPV was formed Hassan Mangalore Rail Development Co Ltd for the notoriously delayed gauge conversion of this 183 km long MG section to BG that took 11 years. Pls see click here
Once the line was reopened, the Railway Safety Commissioner Bangalore put a limit of 6 pairs of trains per day on the SBHR-SKLR ghat section. Since HMRDCL gave importance for freight movement esp iron ore trains to Mangalore Port from upcountry mines were given priority, passenger traffic took back seat with just 1 and half pairs a day. This can be resolved if crossing stations are permitted as it was during MG era at SVGL, YDK etc. Due to the imposition of just one train at a time on this section rule by the CRC no more trains are possible now. RB will be able relax this if flag stations are permitted on this 55 km long stretch that now takes 150 minutes to cover.
A permanent solution is to have double track on an alternate alignment with lesser gradient , but HMRDCL does not have deep pockets to fund it. A new JV- SPV (like KRCL) with larger jurisdiction (see my post 1923978-2 ) for the West Coast and adjoining regions with funds to cross subsidize the traffic revenue will be the best way out. Electrification of this route is also to be taken up. Lot of public support is necessary for these .....Untill then its always field day for private bus owners with a small pie to both KSRTCs too...... Remember railway is the least polluting mass transit system..... for smaller private gains we shouldnt sacrifice the environment......Any takers....????

Increasing line capacity on this route will never happen unless someone dedicated like our great Metro-Man Sridharan takes charge of it. It was oly because of him Konkan Rail is a reality now, there was huge opposition from bus & truck lobby of Mangalore, Goa and Mumbai. It was his sheer determination to complete the project with the backing of then Union Minister George Fernandas who envisaged the project else it would have been dragging even now.
In this case of MAJN-SKLR-HAS line, nothing has been done for capacity augmentation after gauge conversion. There are private interests of politicians of all hues behind these as many of these people doesnt want rail development in this region. Only persistent popular hue and

cry can do something. To begin with introduce atleast 2 flag stations on the ghat section (SBHR-SKLR) will help increase the number of trains.

Since 56665 Passenger from CAN-KGQ- BYNR in the current schedule does not have sufficient number of passengers, it is proposed to extend it both ways with slip coaches as follows:
Portion 1: VSG - RMM via BYNR, CAN, PGT, POY, MDU with both 2S & SL coaches
Portion 2: VSG - VLNK via BYNR, PGT, ED, TPJ, NGT with both 2S & SL coaches.

trains can run combined as a Fast Passenger between VSG and PGT and bifurcate / amalgamate at PGT for onward run. As both Velankanni and Rameshwaram are important pilgrim centres, this train will be a success.
During MG era there were trains from PGT to RMM & MDU. But after gauge conversion no new trains are introduced or the old ones re-introduced in this section...... Please support this train....

There is lot of demand... as the old trains are not yet restored, passengers are forced to take bus atleast till POY......unless they are restored the public money spent on gauge conversion will be a waste....if Express trains are introduced with no intermediate stop between PGTN & POY, this argument of insufficient facilities at station enroute wont stand any ground...22629/Mumbai Dadar (T.) - Tirunelveli SF Express now running via ED, KRR can be diverted via POY, DG that is shorter by 120 km. Atleast 2 hrs can be saved....

Mangalore is the second largest city in Karnataka and is very close to Kerala boarder. It is well connected with Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Ernakulam by rail (and air too) but there are just 10 pairs of trains per WEEK from here to Bangalore !!!!!

Yes there is a train via a much longer route of CBE, BGP. None travels from MAQ to YPR in it as it takes 17 hrs 30 mts to cover 833 kms where as the shortest route via SKLR, HAS is just 390 kms.....this is the influence of bus lobby...

12657 MAS-SBC Mail is indeed a Sleep Killer (also the pairing train 12658 is more horrible) the TTE will wake you up in odd hrs to check tkt; rest of the trip will be a sleepless night). I suggest an alternate night train in a longer route: SBC, YPR, BAND, HSRA, OML (bypass SA to avoid loco reversal / change) JTJ and the usual route to MAS or extend till MS so that passengers can easily switch to local trains at MSB or MS. It will be 555 km long route and can leave SBC and MS simultaneously at 21.00 reach respective destinations by 06.30 am next day without disturbing sleep. Elders will be really happy; it will be a hit. Any takers.....!!!

Link RMM with SVDK by re-orienting the existing 16687 Navayug Exp from MAQ to SVDK. At present this train takes 24% longer route via PGT, BZA, NDLS, DUI, LDH route, instead re-orient the train as RMM, MDU, POY, PGT, MAJN, MAO,PNVL, ADI, ABR, FL, HSR, JHL and on-wards in the existing route. Between Mangalore and Jammu it will be shorter by 890 kms also saving nearly 16 hrs of journey. The slip portion 16787 TEN-SVDK Link Exp can be amalgamated at MDU instead of ED or this can run as an independent train in the existing route.
