It is a day on which obeisance is paid to Lord Vishwakarma, the celestial ARCHITECT & ENGINEER of the GODS and pujas are performed to machines, vehicles, tools and implements. The BENGALI EQUIVALENT so-to-say of the AYUDHA PUJA in parts of South India. The Lord's vehicle is an ELEPHANT. This puja HERALDS the IMMINENT ADVENT of the bigger PUJA to come viz. the DURGA PUJA commencing on 19th October this time. Today is also the day for KITE FLYING on a MASSIVE SCALE causing equally MASSIVE DISRUPTION to TRAIN SERVICES particularly EMU locals.
