I heard during my childhood, the one who was charging the coal with shovel into the furnace on that steam loco, gone into furnace when the engine fallen into river and they recovered only his skeleton later.what a miserable tragedy.

It is very glad to hear the news of my childhood as well as even now at the age of 55 , favourite Express train "Rameswaram-Chennai Express" (formerly called as Boat Mail,Indo - Ceylon Express & Dhanushkodi Express etc at different periods) is finishing 100 years of service in Indian Railways today 23rd Feb 2014 by helping millions of Passengers to commute between Madras and Thalaimannar.My best wishes to serve long for more & more passengers and achieve new milestones in near future.

During the recent centenary celebration function of Pamban Bridge,Dr. Abdul kalam ,our Ex-President requested for a train in the name of Pamban Express to be operated from Rameswaram.But in the list of new trains announced in the recently submitted interim Railway Budget, Railway Minister was not even given any importance to the request made by DR.Abdul Kalam as no train is orginating from Rameswaram in his presented list as if Railway Board is not willing to memomarate the century old Pamban Bridge and also it is not belonging to Indian Railways solely with the view of step mother treatment to South.

In RM's list of new trains, no new train is given to start from Rameswaram. Already running trains from Rameswaram are having their own names.It was suggested by him for a new train only in the name of Pamban Express.So eligibility is not coming in the picture

Instead of cancelling this Garib Rath Express, they can make it to run directly from PDY to JP via YPR.More chances for getting better utilization since so many Rajastanis are living in PDY and students are studying in colleges situated in & around PDY.

Apart from that,Tamilnadu state's main trunk route Madras- kanyakumari needs to be doubled at the earliest from the present single line. In the last 4,5 decades,why none of our elected MPS collectively raised their voice in the parliament for this doubling is really a woder.Also, State government should help the railways by speeding up the pending land aquisition cases,alloting suffient quarries,making flyovers on level crossings etc.Unless otherwise these are all not met,expecting more trains and better services/connectivity will be the day dreams only.
