Prime reason is punctuality, has gone down the drain. SER's decision to serve all its' division's major Kolkata rush bond points with a single slow premium train is backfiring now.
Except for TATA, this train's route is very ridiculously long and slow for HWH passengers boarding from RNC and PRR. Thanks to CKP division to add extra detentions everyday as icing.
With MSAE's SER-ER connection near the horizon, contributions by RNC and PRR will reduce to nill if VB fails to provide competitive fast and comfortable journey experience.

In that case both may end up like 18628/22892, 12827 combo with poor maintenance. HTE CDO doesn't have e good record in maintaining trains. Things might settle different for VBs but the probability remains.

Journey time would be same if routed via DC. With 2 zonal interchange slack, 2 intersectional change slack and fixed DC runtime of 50 mins., the sum will come close to 7 hrs.
Journey time via PRR-ASN would at max. be 5 hrs 35 mins.:
RNC-PRR 1 hr 53 mins. (Will further reduce if KSX halt is eliminated) (incl. sectional change slack.)

PRR-ASN is a industrial route comprising of Raghunathpur Industrial Parks and MSMEs. Don't misinterpret it with BQA-KGP section.
Its better not be prejudice about the route when not a single train is available through it due to freight density and zonal politics.
Patronage can be significantly different when shortest path is taken into account. We have already seen RNC-PNBE VB as one such example in action.

TLE -BKSN would be an option which will be significantly faster than via CRP and can be tried. It would be able to tackle the diversion if another season of DC closure ever happen. RNC-HWH VB operated by SER will stay via PRR

RNC-PNBE VB was a pure miss on my analytical part. We both went wrong.ЁЯШВ
20898's patronage statistics would have been different if routed via PRR-ASN.
Following present reservation records:
RNC would have provided total numbers in range of 230-280. Fastest train in RNC-ASN/DGR/BWN segment, expect 30-35% of those heading there.

JOC halt would be eventually added due to huge number of heavy industries already commissioned and under construction. Has tourism potential so expect a surge too. Somewhere around 30-50 during initial months. No proper train to count as reference.
ASN in range of 90-110 going by PNBE VB
DGR in range of 120--150 going by PNBE VB.
BWN (if given) no VB halting so no reference.

In search of PSUs, you skipped on large private investments already made or being made by Shree Cement, Shyam Steel, Rashmi Steel, Captain and Maithon Steel etc. falling under Raghunathpur Industrial Park 1 and 2.
Only PSU present in vicinity is IISCO Burnpur which recently got environmental clearance for expansion. Still cannot be counted as under construction unless work starts.
Apart from them, DVC is expanding their RTPS plant rated to be highest capacity in WB.

Somewhat facilitating the passengers of RNC-MURI intermediate stations to avail BSB VB from MURI, though given the demographics of the region it will still be almost negligible. Else I don't see any targetted passenger segment. Too much slack added ahead of KSX, GTD and PRR.
