“Good Train on poor track” is the one line description of the first Tejas. A luxurious, aesthetic & 200kmph capable rake, when operated on 110/130kmph super-saturated single rly line, can at the best give a mediocre service.

There are many deficiencies in the first Tejas due to which it’s round the year success is very doubtful
(1) Operational Speed of 110/130kmph(doubtful?), and avg...
more... speed-65kmph is too low
(2) Journey time is too high 8:30 hrs is too long and uncomfortable for a chaircar journey
(3) Destination should be MAO instead of Karmali
(4) Inconvenient timings- Departure time of 5:00 am at CSTM is too early and arrival time of 23:00 is a bit late.
(5) Too high fare of Tejas as compared to other trains. Tejas seats are available at 2600+catering charges. Please see below link
/blog/post/2287327(6) Tejas fare 2600+catering charges as against is too high as compared to seats currently offered at Rs. 1688(IA), Rs 2036(GoAir).. on yatra.com

Tejas should have been introduced after upgradation of CSTM-MAO line to 160kmph and after commissioning of capacity augmentation projects like Patch doubling, new Rly stations, electrification etc. on the Tejas route.
Above could have ensured a short and convenient journey time of around 5-6 hours for CSTM-MAO journey with CSTM Departure/Arrival at about 7:00/21:00 hrs.
Tejas could be a super success even if it is able to attract a small fraction of the airline paxs of Mum-Goa route which is above 2 lac air-passengers per month. Air journey is 70-75 minutes and the Tejas journey has to be below 5 hrs for that to happen.
