Hope they will materialize our idea
Guys, the ministry has asked people for concrete, workable suggestions and ideas thru this website of theirs click here under 6 broadly classified important aspects of the Indian Railways. While the invitation is open for all citizens from all walks of life, I just thought as railfans, we are better placed to offer what is asked for. Its a small gesture to give back something to an institution that we so dearly love and which has brought us all together on this platform here. Honestly speaking, I have my own doubts if our ideas would ever materialize having a fair knowledge of how our govt organizations typically works but we can surely claim to be on a high pedestal and claim to have done our 'duty'/ bit to the cause and put the ball in their court. More importantly we can discuss, debate and fine-tune all those suggestions...

PS. The registration and submission processes appear to be slightly cumbersome like any other sarkaari website, but hardly takes a couple of mins.

Suggestions or innovative ideas in this particular case do not come under the ambit of railfanning or RF hobbies. As railfans, we're simply better placed and are more 'superior' to make those suggestions than normal citizens. Dont think a slight nudge here and there would alter equations anywhere. A RF offering ideas is no way superior to a RF doing photography or videography, but a small exhortation to RFs pointing out to them that more can be done for apart from photography and videography or making TTs is nothing wrong IMO.

Re# 2173805-10
there is a trust deficit that exits between the RF community & the IR Machinery, there is always a fear factor while rail-fanning at stations... the RF community needs to bridge this trust deficit through such initiatives....
.
and "growing up" here doesnt mean leveling up from something inferior, when you grow from infant to child you dont become superior from inferior... i am only highlighting the need to shoulder additional responsibility for the RF community beyond photos & videos.

But do you think the govt. (this or any other) really bothers to improve IR from such initiatives? There have been numerous committees who have given suggestions for improvement. The IR employees themselves, who know the mess inside-out, have given suggestions. When govt. never bothers to listen and implement them, You think fans like us will be respected or heard? All these are publicity gimmicks similar to sending baby food to people who tweet or free wifi, to grab headlines and showcase the govt. as a innovative one taking feedbacks from people.

deficit? The simple reality is railfans are mocked at. Personally I have experienced IR employees who have mocked me when I was young and asked a few innocuous questions. They don't understand what railfanning and passion for trains is . This post sums it up /blog/post/2143581.

An article I read in IRI news - An article on railfans who go to any lengths like climbing mountains to take pics and having good knowledge about locos. The newspaper reported it and also quoted rail officials saying that these fans are passionate, but sometimes behave as though they know better than us which is dangerous. Not trust deficit, just plain disdain....

My take is govt. has no use for any suggestions, just for publicity they will implement some small idea of some IIT guy and tom-tom it as a "Green initiative" or "Make in India" or "Digital India" vision. They are masters at conning the public with PR blitz.

There are so many members who have tweeted or complained through various forums and there has been no reply, let alone suggestion being acted upon. Here is the latest one /blog/post/2205270.
-
All members on this forum - who have so many suggestions, ideas, discussions and creating imaginary trains - are all part of innovative thinking as to what can be done to improve IR. A dream, hope, yearning ..... that if these ideas are acted upon, then IR will improve. But reality is its just confined to this forum, because all know, even if we all were to consolidate and send these ideas and suggestions, nothing will come of it...... Will be thrown out by 'powers that be' or just will gather dust as many expert committee reports are gathering dust.

P.S.: I personally do see the discussions here on the forum by all members as something beyond photos and videos /blog/post/2173805

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
